James Anderson to miss first Test on India tour

James Anderson is set to miss the first Test of England's tour of India that is scheduled to begin on Nov 9 due to a shoulder injury. Anderson suffered a stress fracture in the Sri Lanka series and missed the first Test against Pakistan at Lords as well.

Anderson last played against Pakistan in August where he took nine wickets in three Tests but rushing him back quickly appears to have aggravated his injury.

The pacer was excluded from the squad for the two-Test series in Bangladesh in the hopes that he would be ready for the big Test on Indian shores, but English captain Alastair Cook has announced that he would not be ready for the start of the series.

"He might be ready to do some training, but won't be ready for the first Test," Cook said, reported the BBC.

Anderson, 34, has 463 wickets to his name since making his debut in 2003, a feat that has made him England's record wicket-taker in Tests and propelled him to sixth on the list of highest wicket takrs in Test History

"I don't know what's happening. They will be making some decisions over the next seven days or so. I spoke to him last night and he is training well and in good shape physically." Cook added.

In 2012, Indian captain MS Dhoni had described him as "the difference between the sides" after England won the series. In unfavourable sub-continental conditions, Anderson took 12 wickets in the series while all Indian seamers combined were able to claim just 10 as England won their first Test series in India since 1984-85 by a margin of 1-2.

England who are currently on tour in Bangladesh will start their first Test tomorrow after winning the ODI series 1-2.
