Dhawan shares his away from team experience
Shikhar Dhawan, who has been away from the Indian international cricket team, shared his experience on how it has affected him. He further commented on how criticism has made him stronger and all the critics have helped him up his performance as he hopes to make a strong comeback to the Indian side.
The top-order batsman has been away from the international action in all three formats and did not perform well in the Vijay Hazare and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournaments, either. However, Dhawan bounced back to form in the Deodhar Trophy for India-B where he scored 128, 50, and 45.
When questioned on how important these performances were Dhawan stated that these innings brought him confidence as he had not been making runs for quite some time, in an interview to ESPNcricinfo.
He further stated, "This tournament is one of the more important ones ahead of the Champions Trophy. I knew that I had to do well to find a place in the Indian team once again. Luckily the right things happened at the right time, so I am very thankful to God that things have fallen in place."
On being questioned about his mindset after a string of low scores in both Tests and ODI's, he said that there were always some low-scoring innings and sometimes the runs are hard to come by even when all the right things are done.
Shikhar said that he needs to play a more relaxed game while on international duty given that he had earlier let his poor performances affect his concentration.
He stated,"I wasn't playing well in the Indian team, and no matter how much I wanted to relax, I couldn't because you know where you stand. At the end of the day, when you are giving your best and yet things are not happening, frustration creeps in."
"Playing cricket is the love of my life. But then you have to accept things in life. This time has taught me to accept things, and I can say it has made me a more relaxed person. Heart of hearts, I know I followed my process and gave my best. I am just going to enjoy my game and let's see how it goes. " he further added.
Shikhar cleared the air about how much the social media posts affected his game.
"I don't read anything on social media. If I am going to do well, they will write good things about me. If I am going to play badly they will write bad things about me. There are people who may make fun of or criticize others. Such people are necessary because they drive you to do better and act as motivating factors. I want to thank everybody, including my critics because if they don't say what they say, I won't be pushed into doing what I am doing.", he stated to ESPNcricinfo.
Dhawan stated that cricket was the love of his life and he would not leave it no matter how many people despise him.
He said, "I am so much in love with my work that people can abuse me for a lifetime, but they cannot stop me from working or holding a bat.
Dhawan thanked his family for their love and support and is looking forward to making a mark in IPL10. He is all set to make an explosive comeback to the Indian cricket team in the Champions Trophy.
