India all set to participate in Champions Trophy, clears BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India cleared the air regarding India's participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy in England. The board followed the Committee Of Administrators' decision of not getting into a legal battle with ICC and announcing the team for the tournament.

The board adhered to the COA's decision with respect to the matter and Indian coach, Anil Kumble's letter piled enough pressure for the board to give up on the opinion of pulling out from the tournament.

The Indian team that will defend their title in England and Wales will be selected and announced in the next 48 hours. The BCCI announced its decision after a Special General Meeting in New Delhi today.

"It was a unanimous decision that the Indian team will be participating in the Champions Trophy. We will not take any legal recourse in the matter. Mr. Amitabh Chaudhary and CEO Rahul Johri will negotiate with ICC,” a senior office-bearer told PTI.

Meanwhile, a fresh controversy could start after the participation of the former chairman of BCCI, Mr. N Srinivasan, who had been ousted out of power by the Lodha Committee Act.

"Yes, Mr. Srinivasan is attending the meeting via Skype from London. As per FAQs, there is no clarity if he is disqualified or not. The Supreme Court passed a judgment that he won’t be allowed to attend the ICC meeting but it was never clarified whether he is ineligible to attend the SGM,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Sunday.

BCCI's old wing is still showing defiance with Srinivasan's participation,71, who is not eligible according to the Lodha Committee's age cap of 70 years.

Moreover, Niranjan Shah, a 72-year old, supervised a meeting of the Saurashtra Cricket Association cricket academy last week which was also against the reforms stated in the Lodha Committee Act.

The COA's stand on Srinivasan would prove crucial to the application of the Lodha Committee reforms.
