The IPL final between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant was a thriller till the end and Rohit Sharma has described it as the best T20 game that he has been a part of. It is unclear if teams will be allowed to retain players for the next edition, but skipper Rohit wants to continue with MI.

Both teams fought hard on a two-paced Hyderabad strip where batsmen found it difficult to score runs freely. MI's bowlers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah (2/26) and Mitchell Johnson (3/26), held their nerves under immense pressure to defeat Pune by one run.

"All three (titles) are special I guess. But I think the last game is the best T20 tie I've been a part of. I can't single out any one edition because all the three editions we won were special and it took us a lot of hard work to win. So, I want to cherish all three. No one has won the IPL thrice yet, so this is a big achievement for me as a player and for the team as well," Rohit told a press conference in Mumbai on Monday (May 22).

Rohit is the most successful captain in IPL's 10-year history, winning the competition thrice.

"As captain, I love to inspire teams as much as I can," he said. "It (captaincy) does help me a lot. Last year, we had a tough time and could not qualify for the playoffs but we knew we had the players to do well this year and they delivered. The attitude of the players remained the same whether we won or lost."

MI's previous IPL title came in 2015, when Ricky Ponting was coach. Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene succeeded Ponting as coach.

"Both are different. Both have vast experience of international cricket and deep knowledge about the game. Both were captains of their respective countries and I learned a lot of things from them. This is where IPL is so good, in bringing together a mix of international players from different countries," Rohit said.

"I would love to play for my state franchise (MI). I have played all my cricket in Mumbai and lived here all my life. We would also be happy to retain the whole squad," he said.

Did you know, Rohit Sharma is the only player in the world to score two double hundreds in ODIs.
