MS Dhoni is known for his surreal wicketkeeping and presence of mind behind the stumps and it was on full display yesterday in the first T20I against New Zealand. With a quick throw coming into him, and Dhoni standing with his back towards the stumps, let the ball through to inflict the direct hit.

India had left little to luck, on Wednesday, for the second innings thanks to some exceptional batting by the Indian openers. With the dew playing a large factor once again in the second innings, India were asked to bat first and Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma made sure New Zealand did sweat as much as them if they were to get near to a win.

With three wickets already gone by the 10th over and fortune favouring the hosts, India could afford to take some risks. And Dhoni did exactly in the 11th over when a mistimed sweep shot by Tom Latham off Axar Patel’s delivery went into short fine leg and the Kiwi duo attempted a quick single. Tom Bruce had enough time to cover the pitch and the only slim chance of dismissal, if any, was a direct hit. As the ball was thrown at Dhoni, the former Indian captain had taken the spot in between the fielder and at the wicket. Realizing that the throw had enough pace on it, the Ranchi player, instead of catching the ball let the ball, slip through his gloves and legs to hit the stumps, which forced the field officials to go upstairs. However, the replays showed that Bruce had safely reached the crease by then but fans were still left to marvel Dhoni's incredible speed of thought.
