7 PM IPL matches on the cards; mid-season transfer may get approval
In all probability, the 8 PM IPL matches will begin at 7 PM from next season for the feasibility of fans, but that is again subject to the approval of the broadcaster. IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla has also revealed that the idea of mid-season transfers of players was welcomed by all franchises.
There were a lot of demands to prepone the evening IPL matches to 7 PM which makes things easier for fans to watch the full match at the stadium, but the previous broadcaster Sony India was not in
“It was just a thought (starting game at 7 pm) and everyone welcomed it but first we need to speak to the broadcaster and take their nod. We will work on modalities then. There have been many centers where traveling is a major concern. All the issues were discussed and we all thought to start the game but early,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told The Indian Express.
The mid-season transfer possibilities have also been discussed in the meeting and as per the report, every franchise welcomed the idea with open arms. Earlier, there have been instances where a player gets only a few games or warms the bench throughout the season. A team buys a certain player in the auction but later finds it difficult to accommodate him in the playing XI due to their combination or team balance. So, this decision might work like a charm for the players.
“Every IPL owner agreed to have this in the forthcoming season. It will give chance to those players who are good but are not getting opportunities to be part of playing XI of any IPL side. We are having an IPL governing council meeting soon to finalize all these points,” Shukla said.
