BCCI finance committee proposes 50 crore fund for North East states

The BCCI’s finance committee has recommended an allocation of Rs 50 crore to develop infrastructure in the North-Eastern states. It seems a good step in the region to promote the game after new stadium at Guwahati will host its first international cricket match, today, between India and Australia.

BCCI is working to boost the basic facilities in the North-East states as their Finance Committee has decided to allocate a fund of Rs 50 Crore for infrastructure development, the CAB joint secretary and BCCI’s New Area Development Programme (NADP) head Avishek Dalmiya had stated in a Press release.

PTI reported to have learned that the proposal to create a fund for the North East area development was suggested by treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary. Later the committee members including finance committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia agreed on it. The matter has been placed before COA chief Vinod Rai for his approval.

“I have been given to understand that the Finance Committee of the BCCI has recommended to allocate a separate fund of Rs 50 crore for development of infrastructure in the Northeastern states. It is a much positive and a needed step,” Dalmiya was quoted as saying in a press release.

The whole structure and layout for Development of Infrastructure in the North-Eastern states has been created by NADP. Development of full-size cricket grounds, budget stadiums as well as indoor practice facilities were included in the proposal. A separate cricket academy for the North-East is also included.

They had been worked for creating indoor facilities in Meghalaya and Nagaland and also procurement of necessary cricket equipment for starting school tournaments in Sikkim.

After the approval from the COA on such recommendation of the Finance Committee, the board would take the responsibility of the balance infrastructure works which have been pending for a long time.

“Considering the pan-India approach, it is of utmost importance to ensure appropriate infrastructure is created in these states so that they are in a position to compete,” Dalmiya added.
