Mohammad Hafeez reported for suspect action yet again

For the third time in as many years, Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been reported for a suspect bowling action during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. He now has 14 days to have his action tested and until the results of that test are known, he can continue bowling.

The ICC said the match officials’ report, which was handed over to the Pakistan team management, noted concerns about the legality of his action during the match on Wednesday.

“Hafeez’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC illegal bowling action regulations. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Hafeez is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the assessments are known,” said an ICC release, reported PTI.

Hafeez only resumed bowling duties for Pakistan at the start of this year, in the ODI series against Australia, which marked the end of his worrisome period of two years in which he was reported twice and suspended from bowling twice. He was first reported in November 2014, during a Test series against New Zealand in the UAE. He was allowed to bowling in international cricket after clearing the test in April 2015. Hafeez's action was reported a second time in June 2015 and the offie was banned from bowling in international cricket for 12 months from July 2015. 

If Hafeez's action is now found to be faulty after the assessment, he won't be allowed to bowl until he clears the test again. However, unlike his second suspension, the 37-year-old won't be barred for any specific time frame and hence can apply for a reassessment anytime as per his convenience.
