Mark Taylor reveals that Cricket Australia mulling ban on sledging

Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has revealed that Cricket Australia are pondering on a possible ban on sledging in Australian cricket. The 53-year-old CA board member also felt that the abusing, sledging, and verbals chatter on the field has gone too far and needs to be controlled.

Australia, as a cricketing nation, have been under-fire in the last week or so after the entire Sandpaper-gate scandal that saw three players, Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft handed lengthy bans for pre-planned ball tampering. The fallout of the same has seen many in the cricketing world question Australia’s approach to the game of cricket.

There have been comments which suggest that they are quite bullish and abusive in the way the sledge and talk to the opposition players on the field. Former Australia captain and commentator, Mark Taylor who is also a board member of Cricket Australia, believes that there is a possibility that CA might impose a ban on sledging.

“Absolutely (imposing a ban on sledging is a possibility). You are not going to stop people talking out on the field. Talking is one thing. Abusing, sledging, bullying, verbalising whatever you want to call it is another thing. It’s gone too far,” Mark Taylor was quoted saying by Channel Nine.

However, Mark Taylor didn’t reveal much when asked if he would move a motion on the CA board to ban sledging.

“That may or may not happen in a board meeting in three weeks’ time that’s not to be aired on national television,” Taylor added.

The Australian cricket team are known for their sledging. Recently, David Warner was penalized for going too far ahead with his verbal duel with Quinton de Kock. There was also a lot of chatter going on in the Ashes series and skipper Steve Smith was in the thick of things.
