Rohit Sharma feels that the Indian Premier League will stand to benefit if a mid-season transfer window will be allowed for teams as it will give the teams a chance to strengthen their squads. Mahela jayawardene has also agreed with Sharma and stated that this was part of the evolution of the IPL.

The Indian Premier League is just a day away and the eight teams are sure to have a fair idea of where they stand when pitted against another team in the league. This year’s IPL is certainly set to be a feat for the neutral audience as most of the teams involved look to have balanced squads capable of defeating any team they go up against.

But it is a long season and as seen with the injuries to Australian bowler Mitchell Starc and South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who were both ruled out of the IPL due to injuries ahead of the tournament, the players are in constant threat of getting injured throughout the one-month tournament. Due to such instances, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma opined that a mid-season transfer window will be beneficial to the IPL and will allow teams to replace essential players who have suffered an injury.

"The mid-season transfer window will give the teams an opportunity to see what they need in the squad and other teams will also be looking at what players they can get," Rohit said. "It completely depends on the franchise if a situation comes when we need to get a player or give a player. It is good for the tournament and will add even more value to it," the Mumbai Indians skipper told Cricbuzz.

Each IPL franchise is allowed to maintain a squad of 25 members, which despite being cut down down from 27, remained too large for those in the periphery of things to get game time. Each team opts to play with a selected few 18-19 players over the course of the tournament which left quite a few names on the bench for the entire tournament.

MI coach and former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela jayawardene was in tandem with Sharma as he agreed that the introduction of a mid-season transfer window is part of the evolution of the IPL.

"This is the evolution for the franchise model going forward. It's a great option. The opportunity is there and it's quite new to all franchises to go through the season half-way and discuss how best we can address that,"

"It's going football way - like transfer, technology being used, and investing in younger players is always going to be healthy for international cricket. If you see the Indian white-ball team now, most players have come through IPL. It's always healthy. I don't see any problem," Jayawardene added.
