VIDEO | AB de Villiers clears the stadium with the biggest six of the 2018 IPL
While the outcomes haven’t always gone Royal Challengers Bangalore’s way this season, the fans wouldn’t complain much as their favourite AB de Villiers has almost always come to the party. The Cauvery derby was the latest occasion, where the free-hitting batsman took Imran Tahir out of Chinnaswamy.
After Virat Kohli left early to Shardul Thakur’s delivery after managing just 18 runs and leaving his side high and dry at 35/1 in the fifth over, the onus was on Quinton de Kock and de Villiers to amass a total that even the batting heavy CSK would find it hard to chase.
Though he started in his uncharacteristically slow and steady manner, his six off Harbhajan Singh’s delivery had given the hint that he was is sweet touch today. There was no stopping him after that he treated Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir all the same. RCB reached their 10 over mark, with a strong 87/1 with the Proteas duo looking in marvellous touch.
The shot of the match took place in the 11 over when Dhoni decided to hand the ball to de Villiers’ compatriot Tahir. De Villiers welcomed him with a cracking reverse cut boundary and followed it up with a sweep six before the shot of the match came. Tahir’s delivery was right in his zone and given how early de Villiers judges it, he was quick to kneel with his head down and eyes away from the line to send the ball for a monstrous six.
He had executed a similar shot in last game against Delhi Daredevils last game, which had hit the terrace and come back to the ground measuring 106m. This time, the ball vanished over the roof at deep mid to clock 111m, the biggest hit of the tournament so far.
