Devon Smith has been dropped from the West Indies squad selected for their tour of India which starts on October 4, 2018. The 15-member squad from the Windies, who will play two Test matches, has also brought back Sunil Ambris, who missed the last couple of series due to injury.

Devon Smith has proved to be slightly inconsistent with his recent form and his records reflect a lot about his performance. Although he managed to score two fifties in the last nine innings, five of those other seven appearances ended with single-digit scores. With Smith not being a part of the team anymore, Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell could open the batting for Windies.

Windies have also given chance to Sunil Ambris, who shall look forward to continuing his form from the “A” series where he scored a century. However on the international level, he had a very unfortunate start of getting dismissed hit wicket and then retiring hurt in his second and last game. The Windies team management have also brought in a young fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph, who played in England last year, while Jomel Warrican has been included to reinforce the spin bowling which has highly been relied only on Devendra Bishoo.

Courtney Browne, chairman of selectors, congratulated the team on their recent success in the Test series against Bangladesh and hoped the team will continue the same level of success in India this time around.

"The panel congratulates Jason Holder and his team on the excellent performance against Bangladesh. As the team embarks on a tough tour of India the successes against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh should hold them in good stead during the India series. The panel welcomes back Sunil Ambris who missed the last couple of series due to injury, along with Jomel Warrican who adds a second spin bowling option to the attack,” Brown said.

Windies will travel to India for a two-match Test series, followed by five ODIs and three T20s. The last time these two teams met India won the four-match series 2-0.
