In a format like T20, which is more associated with the procedure of hit and miss, a player doesn’t often get second chances on the field. Hence, when Jozi Stars' Simon Harmer tripped over the stumps while attempting a Khaya Zondo's catch before eventually clinging on to it, he was left stunned.

The 23rd match of the Mzansi Super League had promised to be an exciting one with numerous stalwarts taking the field from either side and it lived up to the billing. Though Durban Heat could only post a meek total of 128 runs, Jozi Stars took until the penultimate ball of the match to cross the rope.

However, the incident in question happened in the first innings itself when Khaya Zondo was batting. With Temba Bavuma leaving the field within the fourth over of the powerplay after making just one run from four balls, Zondo was instructed to swing his blade from the very first ball and get as much run as possible with the field restrictions still on.

But, the batsman succumbed to the pressure in the first ball itself as he tried to go on his knee and slog sweep. He couldn’t connect the sweet spot ending up giving a top edge. The ball went straight up with a simple catch looking its only fat. However, keeping his eyes fixed on the ball, Harmer forgot that there were stumps in his way and consequently, fell over them.

Credit must be given to him for he didn’t lose sight of the ball even then and eventually ended up taking a simple catch sitting on the ground. He wasn’t expecting it and his face said it all.
