Supreme Court to hear Sreesanth's plea on BCCI life-ban ruling on Feb 5
The Apex Court will listen to the S Sreesanth's plea on Monday after he went to the court against the alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. In the past, all the 36 accused in the spot-fixing case, including Sreesanth and his RR teammates were let off by the Patiala Court.
Sreesanthās inclusionĀ for the finals of the 2011 ODI World CupĀ against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, raised quite a few eyebrows. But the pacer managed to keep his cool and ultimately ended the day with a World Cup medal. But since that glorious moment in his career, everything has gone downhill for the Kerala-born cricketer. The entire world was shocked when Sreesanthās name came up in the spot-fixing allegations after the culmination of the 2013 IPL which led to his expulsion from the game after a BCCI ruling made in 2015 that banned the player for life from all BCCI-related sporting activities.
In 2016, Sreesanth was acquitted of all fixing charges by a special court in Delhi, but the BCCI refused to lift the lifetime ban they had imposed on him despite his continued requests to revoke the ruling.
Last October, the Kerala High Court had ordered him to stay away from any cricket activities that were conducted by the BCCI. Sreesanth has now challenged the Kerala High courtās decisionĀ and put forward his appeal in front of the Chief Justice of India, who has agreed to hear the case on the 5th of February.
Sreesanth was of the opinion that as a cricketer, he had the fundamental right to live with dignity and reputation and hence he wanted the decision of the life ban imposed on him by the BCCI to be reviewed by the Supreme Court.
