BCCI planning to shift headquarters from Mumbai to Bangalore
As the National Cricket Academy will take shape in a few years, BCCI is planning to shift its headquarter from rented premises in the Wankhede stadium to a self-owned land in Bangalore. This idea has taken shape after BCCI was able to acquire a 40 acre land on the outskirts of the garden city.
Top BCCI officials are now of the opinion that the time is ideal for their headquarters to shift from its rented premises in Mumbai to a new place that will have the same five-star lodging facility. And after the board successfully managed to acquire a 40 acre land on the outskirts of Bangalore, such a possibility is on the cards.
According to PTI, BCCI’s acting president C.K Khanna has written a letter to all the board members pertaining to the issue.
“People are of the strong view that present administrative premises of the Board do not have adequate and appropriate office infrastructure nor there is any further scope of expansion," the letter read.
As Amitabh Chaudhary, BCCI secretary travels almost for 25 days in a month, his stays in five-star hotels have always been a headache to the BCCI who pay the bills for his accommodation that rise up to crores. The COA had even pointed out in their report.
"I strongly suggest that since BCCI has acquired 40 acres of land at Bengaluru which is in the close vicinity of the airport for its most ambitious project of NCA, this whole land can be used optimally if along with NCA. It must be noted that BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary travels around 25 days a month and the bills of five-star accommodation
The acting president has also hinted that having all the meetings at the Bangalore headquarter might help in cutting down the hotel cost and renting out a part of the new premise may help in generating revenue for the BCCI.
"This plot after earmarking major part of the land for NCA on the advice of experts, may also be used for BCCI's new office and residential accommodation, after assessing the need for various categories of guests that are likely to use the same such as our own Board officials, affiliated states officials, VIP guests, cricketers and others," PTI quoted Khanna in his letter.
