Indian pacer Varun Aaron has lauded Indian skipper Virat Kohli for demonstrating complete support towards the pacers in the squad which has enabled them to perform well in SA. Aaron last played for India in 2015 and has been out of contention for a place in the national side ever since.

The Indian bowling department was the surprise package of India’s ongoing South African tour as the pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah put up a brilliant display in the initial three Test matches which the visitors lost by a narrow margin of 2-1. However, the pacers continued to dominate in the six-match ODI series which followed with ample backing by skipper Virat Kohli.

Aaron opined that this was a major reason that the bowlers performed so well in South African conditions as he highlighted that Kohli’s support and confidence in them helped the bowling department churn out results.

"You saw how the Indian pacers bowled in the last series. The conditions were good and the pacers delivered. That is because Virat supports the pacers well. He loves backing his fast bowlers and that's why India is doing so well on away tours too," Aaron said in an interview to Cricketnext.

Varun Aaron initially burst onto the cricketing scene when he touched a speed of 153 kmph in the Vijay Hazare Trophy way back in 2010-11. Aaron made his debut for India that year itself in an ODI match against England. After almost seven years, the Jharkhand lad has just nine Tests and as many ODIs to his name and concedes that it’s been a task trying to get back into the team.

“It’s tough to make a comeback to the national side. I have almost played a full domestic season after a long time which I was really looking forward to. I played the whole Ranji season, then Syed Mushtaq Ali, and now the Vijay Hazare Trophy. A lot of questions used to be raised if I would last the whole season.I have put that to rest now. So there is no concern over my fitness now,” Aaron said.

After playing for KXIP last year in the IPL, Aaron was surprisingly overlooked in the IPL auction in Bangalore last month and will not be a part of the IPL this year. Aaron admits that he felt a bit disappointed but said he’s moved on from that already.

"I was certainly disappointed, as I had a good season with Kings XI Punjab last year. I got wickets for them too. But then I have put that behind me already and am looking to play some county cricket. Missing out on IPL is no big deal," Aaron added.
