Kapil Dev to head group that will look into making of cricket players’ association

Kapil Dev has been roped in by the BCCI as the organization looks to make major changes based on the Lodha reforms report passed in 2016. CoA has decided to form a 'Working Group' comprising Kapil Dev who will work with former home secretary GK Pillay to "start the process of the formation of CPA."

Back in 2016, as the Lodha reforms committee looked into the working and functioning of the BCCI, they realised that India are the only country to not have a players' body, after which they recommended the formation of a players' association in the report.

A four-member standing committee chaired by former union home secretary GK Pillai and comprising former India cricketers Mohinder Amarnath, Anil Kumble and Diana Edulji, was appointed to "identify and invite all eligible ex-cricketers to be members, to open bank accounts, receive funds from the BCCI, conduct the first elections for office bearers, communicate the names of BCCI player nominees to the board."

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finally decided to adhere to the Lodha Panel Recommendations as they approached former Indian captain, Kapil Dev to head a ‘working group’ comprising of the likes of former India batsman Anshuman Gaekwad, wickwet-keeper Bharat Reddy and ex-India women's team captain Shanta Rangaswamy, which will work with former home secretary GK Pillay to "commence the process of the formation of Cricket Players Association.

According to a report in cricbuzz, the CoA had earlier suggested Mohinder Amarnath’s name to head the steering committee but he left along with two more members. The CoA had then suggested the names of Kapil, Gaekwad and Reddy as the replacements in the steering committee.

"We've had two meetings already. Right now, we're collecting information from the BCCI about all the former cricketers in India in the male, female and physically challenged category," said a member of the 'Working Group.'

Amidst all this, Diana Edujli has recommended that Prof Ratnakar Shetty’s contract with the BCCI be extended for six more months. This will be the second time that his contract will get extended.

The BCCI has also given out an ad to find replace their head of ACU, after Neeraj Kumar retires in March.
