With the changing dynamics of the modern day cricket, the one mental aspect that cricketers had to develop was anticipation. And England’s Keaton Jennings proved that he has a God mode when it comes to anticipatory power as he showed unreal reflexes to send Dimuth Karunaratne back to pavilion.

While fielding has always been an exciting aspect in the game of cricket, it was undoubtedly MS Dhoni who had taken close fielding to a whole new level with his quick anticipation. And the best example of that was Dhoni’s magical skill from behind the stumps when he was playing for Rising Pune Supergiants against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2016.

However, genius is meant to be overreached and in this case, England Keaton Jennings did while fielding at forward short leg in their ongoing Sri Lankan tour. While the ball’s turn was comprehensible in case of Dhoni, who knew what Ankit Sharma was up to, there was no possible way Jennings could have anticipated Karunaratne’s shot in advance, in this case.

But, guess what? The player did guess it right. Adil Rashid’s shorter ball tempted Karunaratne to go for the sweep, which looked destined for a run if not a boundary. But, Jennings had already anticipated it and started turning behind to stop it. However, the lesser power in the shot saw the Englishman get a hand on it before the magical moment arrived.

After reaching the ball, the player realized that he wouldn't be able to hold on to it and showed marvellous presence of mind to deflect it into the hands of wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, who finished the microsecond move with a single catch.
