Saurashtra Cricket Association have revealed that only 10% tickets have been sold for the ongoing first Test match between India and Windies. As per the new BCCI constitution, 90% tickets of the total capacity must be put on public sale, with only 10% of complimentary tickets given to state units.

The first Test match between India and visitors West Indies has already begun today, but as per recent reports, the Saurashtra Cricket Association claimed that only 10% of tickets have been sold to the general public. The SCA Stadium in Rajkot has a total capacity of 25,000 people.

This incident has extra significance as it comes at a time when other state units are fighting for complimentary passes for the ODI series to follow. While the second India-West Indies ODI has been shifted to Visakhapatnam from Indore after a dispute between the state body and BCCI over distribution of complimentary passes, the SCA is handing out free tickets to fill its stadium which is only hosting its second ever international Test match.

“The situation sadly is opposite here (compared to other state units hosting ODIs). Rajkot is not a big city like Delhi and Mumbai and we were expecting a decent turnout in a smaller city like Rajkot. Right now, it doesn’t seem to be the case as just over 2,000 tickets have been sold. But we don’t know why people are not showing interest. Hopefully, the sales pick up over the weekend,” veteran administrator Niranjan Shah said to PTI sources.

As per the new BCCI constitution, 90% tickets of the total capacity of the stadium must be put on public sale, which effectively leaves 10% of complimentary tickets with state units. The cheapest ticket on sale costs just Rs.100 and the SCA had also distributed the tickets to players, men and women, in all districts of the region to boost attendance.

“According to BCCI diktat, 10% of match tickets are reserved for school kids. So they will be attending too. Having said that, it is unfortunate that people are not showing interest,” Shah added.
