AB De Villiers reveals his excitement as he gears up to make comeback

AB de Villiers has claimed that he was ‘extremely excited’ as he prepares himself to make a return to cricket in the Mzansi Super League which is held in South Africa. De Villiers, who announced his retirement earlier this year, ended his career with an incredible tally of 20,014 international runs.

A lot of South African fans and cricket lovers, in general, expressed their grief when former South African batsman, AB de Villiers, announced his decision to retire from international cricket earlier this year. It came as a surprise for cricket aficionados who reckoned that the big-hitting batsman still had it in him to play on the big stage for at least a few more years, if not more. However, de Villiers justified his decision as he claimed that he felt worn out and needed to recuperate.

Having said that, the RCB batsman recently claimed that he was ‘extremely excited’ to make a comeback to the game ahead of the upcoming Mzansi Super League in South Africa. De Villiers will be a part of the tournament that is scheduled to begin on on November 16.

“I am extremely excited. I haven’t played cricket for a while, but I am getting back into the swing of things. I have had these kind of breaks before and it is always a challenge to get fit and hit balls again. I am really looking forward to that, and what will be a really good challenge in the Mzansi Super League,” Sport24 quoted De Villiers.

Talking about the Mzansi Super League, de Villiers said that it was “huge step” in the development of South African cricket. The right-handed batsman also added that the local cricketers will give their all to make it a huge success.

“It is a huge step in the right direction for Cricket South Africa, and South African cricket. As a unit, we’ll be looking to not just pull this tournament off, but make it a great spectacle for fans around the world to enjoy,” he added.

Earlier this year in May, de Villiers had announced his retirement from international cricket. Along with the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and others, de Villiers is considered to be one of the greats in modern cricket having appeared in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20I for the national side. He finished his career with an incredible 20,014 international runs, including 8,765 in Tests, 9,577 in ODIs and 1,672 in T20Is.
