Mumbai Cricket Association's CoA term draws to an end
The five-month tenure of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), which comprised of retired justices Hemant Gokhale and VM Kanade to implement the Lodha reforms in the MCA ended on Friday. The MCA registered their new constitution on Wednesday in accordance with the Lodha recommendations.
The 2018-19 domestic cricket season will be starting in less than a week, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was put in a tricky position on Friday, as far as an administration was concerned. The Committee of Administrators (CoA), which was appointed earlier this year by the Bombay High Court ended, their tenure a day before their term was slated to end.
The almost five-month tenure of the CoA, which comprised of retired justices Hemant Gokhale and VM Kanade, to implement the Lodha reforms in MCA ended as the committee relinquished charge on Friday. The CoA was elected by the Bombay HC on April 6 this year to amend the MCA constitution and conduct polls as specified in the Lodha reforms.
“We have sent the registered constitution to the BCCI, and put it up on the MCA website. Since our term expires on September 15, as per the High Court order dated August 29, we have remitted charge. Ours is the first state association to register the constitution on time, and give the compliance certificate to the BCCI,” Gokhale told TOI earlier.
The MCA had registered its new constitution on Wednesday, in lieu with the Lodha recommendations and the SC order of August 9, with the charity commissioner, Greater Mumbai region. The CoA entrusted MCA's Chief Executive Officer CS Naik to take over the daily functioning and also ensure fresh elections are called to implement the new constitution, but Naik has apparently refused to take charge.
