Bangladesh is a dangerous side, especially in big matches, says Venkatesh Prasad
Venkatesh Prasad believes that India will have to be careful while taking on Bangladesh as they can provide a certain level of threat to the Indian team. After defeating Pakistan by eight wickets on Wednesday, India will take on Bangladesh on September 21 in the ongoing Asia Cup.
Former cricketer, Venkatesh Prasad heaped praises on the Indian side, for having achieved an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday during the ongoing Asia Cup. He also appreciated Kedar Jadhav's part-time bowling which proved very crucial in the game. According to him, the team will have to brush upon their catching skills as it was the only area where the Indian side seemed to be a bit uncomfortable. He also mentioned that the Indian side should be well prepared before taking on Bangladesh, who can threaten the Indian team’s victory ride.
“Rohit came to the party at the right time with his free-flowing display of batting prowess while Kedar Jadhav, returning to cricket after a long injury layoff, fitted the role of the sixth bowler perfectly. In my opinion, catching was the only blemish in the otherwise dominant show by the victors. They'll have to work off this shoddy touch before they take on Bangladesh in the Super Four contest on Friday evening. Bangladesh are a dangerous side, especially in big matches,” Prasad wrote in his column for TOI.
“Bangladesh will hope their injury woes, which have been plenty, won't hurt them. Tamim Iqbal's injury is a huge blow for them. In his absence, the likes of the seasoned Shakib al Hasan and Mohammad Mithun will have to add firepower to the batting. In these conditions, Shakib, the left-arm spinner, will be more than a handful with the ball as well."
According to the former pacer, skipper Rohit Sharma should go for chasing in Dubai. With the kind of weather conditions prevailing there, it would be most appropriate to chase the score, as per him. He feels the Indian spinners will get the opportunity to show some action, as the pitch will be more on the slower side, the Indian spinners are expected to play their part again in today's game.
“The toss will be crucial. Losing the toss against Pakistan proved to be a blessing in disguise given the weather conditions. If Rohit calls right, he should ideally insert the opposition to bat because when you bat first, the ball is not coming on to the bat and is slow off the pitch. So in conditions such as the one in Dubai, it makes sense to chase as the ball tends to come on to the bat. With the pitch being on the slower side, the Indian spinners will be a crucial factor again and Kedar will be interesting to watch. He may well be the surprise package again," Prasad said.
