Andre Russell has stated that he is very excited to represent West Indies in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Russell has played just two ODIs since 2015 World Cup and is not surprised after being named in the West Indies World Cup squad as he has been in very good form in the IPL.

Andre Russell is one of the best all-rounders in contemporary cricket and has been in sublime form for KKR this season. Russell has been the reason behind nightmares for many bowlers in recent times and is certainly in the form of his life. However, Russell has been spending a lot of time alone in recent times, which indicates that things are not settled inside him. In fact, Russell has himself said the zone he is in right now is 'not healthy for a professional cricketer.'

However, Russell has not been a regular appearance for the Windies in the ODIs, having played just 2 games since the 2015 World Cup. But the good news is, Russell has been named in the World Cup squad for 2019. However, he is not surprised by the recall and acknowledges his incredible form for it.

"I wasn't surprised that I was called to the World Cup squad. I've been doing well, I've been back and forth with the selectors and the coaches back home. I know once I'm doing my work here and performing, it will lead to national duties. I wasn't focused on the World Cup. I was just making sure that whatever happened here, I was doing my best," Russell said, reported Cricbuzz.

There are rumours stating that Russell’s comeback was a byproduct of the appointment of new Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt. The new president has also promised to bring massive transformation in such a way that the national side is benefitted the most. Russell preferred to not quip something on the administrative angle and focus on his game.

"I'm not a politician. I don't get into politics, I play my cricket. At the end of the day, politics will always win over everything else. So, I don't get deep into that. I've never met him before. (But) I hope that all of these changes will be for the good. Not only for us as cricketers but for the board, for the future and for West Indies cricket," he said.

With the emergence of T20 cricket, a lot of West Indies cricketers have found a way to make immense money. For the last few years, many West Indies cricketers have found it difficult to get along with the board’s creed.

The franchise-based T20 leagues and the conflict between board and players have resulted in top players exclusion from the national side more often than not. Very often their participation in T20 leagues across the globe and absence from the national side have drawn criticism from fans. Russell spoke about his hunger to play for the national side again and want to make the most of it.

"I'm so hungry now to represent the West Indies. The last time I joined the West Indies team was recently when I had taken two injections to better my knee and it flared up again. I was so upset. I was watching the game against England and couldn't do anything about it. But as I said, I'm so hungry right now to play for West Indies like I'm doing here, hit sixes and score centuries.”
