NZC retires Daniel Vettori's jersey number 11 ahead of the tour of Sri Lanka

The New Zealand Cricket Board announced on Monday that the jersey No.11 that was donned by Daniel Vettori in ODIs has been retired. The official Twitter handle of the Black Caps tweeted that Kiwi players who have represented the country in 200 ODIs will have their shirt numbers retired.

Ahead of New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka, the Black Caps have revealed the jersey numbers of the full 14-member squad through a tweet. A sub tweet also announced that former New Zealand captain and all-rounder Daniel Vettori's jersey number 11 has also been retired.

"Players that represent New Zealand in 200 ODIs have their shirt number retired. Daniel Vettori who wore number 11 has played the most ODIs for the BLACKCAPS with 291," BlackCaps tweeted.

Daniel Vettori, who wore number 11, represented New Zealand in 291 ODI matches and captained in 82 of them.

The two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is scheduled to be held from August 14 to 26. It marks the start of the ICC World Test Championship for New Zealand who will play their first international game since the World Cup final heartbreak. The team will wear name and number on the Test jersey as it is an initiative by the ICC to help fans connect with the players.

A total of seven Kiwi players have played 200 or more ODIs for New Zealand. Besides Daniel Vettori, the other six players are Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, Stephen Fleming, Chris Cairns, Chris Harris and Nathan Astle.
