Reports | Supreme Court-appointed CoA clears CAC of any conflict of interest issue
The CoA and BCCI’s legal team have cleared the Cricket Advisory Committee – in charge of appointing the coaches for the men’s national team – of any conflict of interest. The move was objected by CoA member Diana Edulji, but she was out-voted by her colleagues, Vinod Rai and Ravindra Thodge.
The panel comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy, will hold interviews during the month of August to pick everyone from the head coach, to the coaches of each department, and the backroom staff. However, Edulji differed with committee chairman Rai and her other colleague Lt Gen (Retd.) Thodge, on the formation of the panel.
“It was a 2-1 call (against me). I said it has to go to the Ethics Officer (DK Jain) to decide on a conflict of interest. Ad-Hoc committee is not in the constitution. As such I have voiced my dissent,” Edulji told PTI after the CoA meeting on Monday.
Some in the board questioned Edulji’s intentions. She had previously protested the same panel when formed to select the women’s coach. She had even called WV Raman’s appointment illegal.
However, Edulji questions are once again directed at the manner of the appointment of an ad-hoc body.
“It is not CoA’s domain to decide who is conflicted or not. It has to be done by the Ethics Officer. I stick to my earlier stand (when Raman was appointed). An ad-hoc committee cannot pick the coach. It is not in the constitution,” Edulji further added.
