Global T20 Canada | Yuvraj Singh sustains back injury while attempting slog sweep
Yuvraj Singh was seen mincing holding his lower back while batting for Toronto Nationals against Montreal Tigers. Having come in with his team cruising towards the target, he went down on his knee in an attempt to sweep and was immediately seen struggling in pain before being taken off.
Having recently retired from all forms of international cricket, Yuvraj Singh is currently participating in the Global T20 Canada where he has been made the captain of Toronto nationals. He had been in good touch having scored at a strike rate of 150 while averaging in the high 30s but his injury problems have returned to haunt him as he had to retire hurt in the match against Montreal Tigers.
The Nationals were at 73/3 in the eighth over, chasing a lowly target of 139 when Yuvraj Singh came into bat. On what was only his second ball of the innings, Fawad Ahmed gave the ball a little air while pitching it only a bit short of the crease, which tempted Yuvraj to slog the ball away. He put his right knee on the ground and swung the bat, but ended up missing the ball and at once let go off his bat before the ball could even land on the ground.
He was seen holding his waist clearly in a lot of discomfort before signalling for the medical team to come in from the sidelines. He tried relentlessly to fight through it as the opposition players surrounded him in concern, but it was ultimately too much for him to bear as he walked off after a brief talk with the umpire.
