Duleep Trophy | Rain plays spoilsport as Day 2 called off due to wet outfield
Rain continued to dominate the talks as no play was possible due to rain in the second day of the Duleep Trophy match between India Green and India Blue. Yesterday, after choosing to field first, Green pacers Ishan Porel and Tanveer Ul-Haq inflicted most of the damage at the Just Cricket Academy.
The domestic cricket curtain-raiser Duleep Trophy was initially supposed to be played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru but after Karnataka State Cricket Association decided to prioritize the Karnataka Premier League, their flagship competition, the BCCI tournament was moved to Just Cricket Academy, a firm-house cricket ground on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The lack of proper drainage facility now resulted in the second day's game between India Green and India Blue being called off without a ball being bowled.
Earlier on Day 1, it was a start-stop affair, where only 49 overs were bowled and the Blue finished on 112 for 6 before the day was called off. Ishan Porel and Tanveer Ul-Haq inflicted most of the damage on India Blue while Ankit Rajpoot joined the party by dismissing Ricky Bhui. When bad light seemed to have the last laugh for the day with around 90 minutes of the game left for the close of play, umpires waited for the situation to improve but after seeing no hopes of it, he eventually called it off for the day, with Ankit Bawne and Saurabh Kumar at the crease.
With clouds hovering above Bangalore sky since the last two days, it is highly unlikely that 90 overs of the game will be possible tomorrow as well.
