Mominul Haque has stated that regular Test cricket will help Bangladesh to get better at the format and ultimately improve their prowess in red-ball cricket. He further expressed confidence that the team can compete with India away as long as the players have a strong mindset and enough practice.

With the advent of the World Test Championships, the one team that will be benefiting the most from this new concept is Bangladesh without a doubt. The Tigers rarely get a chance to take on the big guns in elongated Test series and are usually confined to playing white-ball bilateral cricket. Even when they do participate in a Test series, it more often than not is a one-off or a two-match series, leaving players deprived of enough practice in the format at the highest level. They have only played 26 Test matches over the last four and a half years.

''I think the Test championship is good for us and personally, I am very happy as we do not generally focus much on Test cricket," Mominul Haque was reported saying by Cricbuzz on Thursday.

The Asian country is scheduled to play 15 Tests in the first edition of the Championship over the next one and a half years, with a final to follow if they qualify for the same.

''If there is more opportunity to play Test cricket, we can perform better as a team and improve our Test ranking. You have to be physically and mentally strong to play Test matches and I am used to playing only Test matches, so I guess it won't be a problem for me," Haque added.

They’ll start their campaign by touring India for a two-match series and will play Afghanistan in a one-off to help prepare and get in condition for the same. The task of playing the world’s number one Test side who have a reputation of being formidable at home is daunting enough, especially when one considers the fact that Bangladesh have only one of their last 11 Tests on foreign soil. But Haque isn’t much worried about the same.

“It is going to be a good game [preparation-wise] because we are going to face of lot spin against them before playing India. We know their spinners are very dangerous in subcontinental conditions. Recently, I played a couple of three-day and four-day matches in India and when you are playing extensively, it is always easier to adapt. I feel that if you think it is difficult, it is difficult to play Test cricket and if you think it is easy, then it is easy. So a lot depends on the mindset that you are carrying,” the 27-year-old concluded on the matter.
