After a successful two year stint with Leicestershire, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas has bagged a contract with another county club - Nottinghamshire. Abbas will be part of the Notts setup for the initial phase of the summer before he switches to don the whites for Pakistan against England.

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas has bagged a contract with the county club Nottinghamshire after his successful two-year stay with Leicestershire. Abbas will be with the team for the initial nine matches before he joins the Pakistan team that will fly to England for a Test series.

"He's a high-calibre player. He came into Test cricket late, but his impact at that level has been fantastic; almost unprecedented actually," Nottinghamshire Head Coach Peter Moores said after signing Abbas.

The pacer had an outstanding county stint with Leicestershire, picking 79 wickets from 19 matches for the county side. The Notts head coach is well aware of Abbas' swing bowling prowess for his previous county side. "We also know from what he's done with Leicestershire that he can perform in English conditions and can excel within a county schedule that can be quite demanding on quick bowlers. He'll strengthen our bowling considerably, as well as being a mentor for our younger bowlers who can learn a lot from the way he plays the game," Moores asserted.

He has had a phenomenal 2015-16 and 2016-17 season with his national side where he topped the red-ball wicket-takers' list. From his 15 Test appearances, he has picked up 66 wickets at an extraordinary average of 20.

"Trent Bridge is a brilliant venue to call home and I can't wait to join Nottinghamshire next summer. The club is steeped in history and I'm looking forward to giving my all to get them back up into the top division of Championship cricket. I've really enjoyed my past couple of summers playing in England and I'm excited for the domestic season to start again in April," exclaimed Abbas.

His stay with the Notts before the England series may come as a boost for Pakistan in the all-important Test series next year.
