Reports : Schedule for IPL 2019 to be announced in March
BCCI sources have reportedly revealed that the final schedule of the 2019 edition of the IPL will be announced only in March after the dates of the national general elections are released. This year’s final, however, will be played in Chennai, since Chennai Super Kings won the competition last year.
The details of this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League have been still a mystery to the fans all across the globe with over just a month left for the tournament. Things were always going to be tough, from a logistical viewpoint, considering the impending Indian general elections and the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup, which has been scheduled to be played in England and Wales and is starting on May 30.
In a recent report in Hindustan Times, a senior BCCI official has confirmed that the schedule for the 2019 edition of the Indian domestic T20 tournament would be revealed only in March after the dates of the general elections are released. As per sources, the tournament would be played in India itself and it has been deemed important that matches are scheduled in accordance with the dates of election, which will take place in alternate phases.
“The schedule will take some time as we need to wait for the general election dates to be released by the election commission. Since this is the most important event in the calendar year, one has to ensure that we work according to the dates and plan the games in a way that everything is in sync. We all know the kind of arrangement that goes behind hosting elections and that is the priority,” he explained.
The report further also stated that this year’s competition would start on March 23 and the final will be played in Chennai since MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings won last year’s edition of the tournament. Interestingly, this will be the first time that the league would be played without a chairman as the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) disbanded all committees and sub-committees after the registration of the new constitution.
