Cheteshwar Pujara has scored a century for Saurashtra against the Railways in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match and credited his Test cricket form for doing well in the limited-overs format. He has also mentioned that he is confident about playing white-ball cricket and performing well.

Cheteshwar Pujara said that he was not able to play in T20 matches consistently and that sometimes the wickets were tough leading to low-scoring matches. He shared that he prefers to play in flat wickets when it comes to the shortest format of the game and further added that he was in a great form and was waiting to perform in the white-ball cricket.

“It is special. This was expected because I have done well whenever I have got the opportunity in white-ball cricket. I am not surprised by this century, but I am sure many people are. I knew this one would come at some stage in my career, and this is the right time. I have been really batting well,” the Test specialist told ESPNCricinfo.

The Saurashtra batsman shared that he added a few strokes to his game and that the Test series helped him gain confidence and perform well in the match against Railways. He explained that he would play unorthodox shots if the situation demands but favoured proper cricketing shots to score runs.

“If I am able to pick the ball early, I am seeing the ball well. Even in Test cricket, like in Adelaide where I was batting with the tail and had to accelerate, I had to play strokes like the pull, upper cut or go over the top, I was able to do that. If you can play some shots against the red ball, then it is a piece of cake, ” Pujara said.

The Yorkshire batsman also said that he was not worried about going unsold in IPL auctions or about anybody’s perceptions. He asserted that he believes in his ability and would keep looking to improve over time, performing well in white-ball cricket.
