India vs Australia 2019 | India’s predicted XI for second ODI in Adelaide

The SCG win in the first match of the ODI series gave Australia some confidence that they have it in them to stop the Indian juggernaut. On the other hand, the second ODI came as an opportunity for both teams to make sure that they have perfect XI at their disposal as the WC preparation begins.

Openers

Rohit Sharma: If there was ever an innings that would be a testament to Rohit Sharma’s immense capabilities as a batsman, it had to be the one in Sydney. After India lost three wickets for four runs, he partnered MS Dhoni to hit one of his finest centuries, but unfortunately failed to take the team over the line.

Shikhar Dhawan: His problem against the left-arm bowlers is growing with every match and the one that caught him plumb in front, meant only one thing - he has to play across the line more often. That aside, the Delhi southpaw is a terrific opener and someone who has the ability to own the arena. Australia, well, is his second home, after all.

Middle-order

Virat Kohli: If it is ODI cricket, then it is better not to talk much about the Indian skipper. He will score anyway. The first match of the series can be considered as a one-off failure for the Indian skipper as he is very much capable of unleashing his destructive self at the MCG.

Ambati Rayudu: Rayudu was playing his first competitive match after two months and the rustiness showed. However, he has the full backing of Virat Kohli and that is important for him to get himself ready for the upcoming World Cup. While his bowling has been reported for a suspect action, that hardly matters for anything.

MS Dhoni: The former Indian skipper’s Sydney innings was a stark reminder of his dwindling prowess. His 96-ball 51 helped consolidate the India innings after coming in with the scorecard reading 4/3, but his failure to accelerate was one of the reasons the world is baying for his blood.

All-rounders

Kedar Jadhav: The pocket dynamite from Maharashtra missed out from the starting XI for the first ODI in Sydney as India decided to go with Dinesh Karthik, but it seems like Jadhav will be in the contention for the next game, mainly down to his ability to play a mature innings as well as chipping in with few overs.

Ravindra Jadeja: While people might ask for the inclusion of Vijay Shankar in place of Ravindra Jadeja, it is a fact worth remembering that Shankar hasn’t bowled many overs recently, and he is working on it constantly, as he told SportsCafe yesterday. Jadeja, on the other hand, is capable of carrying out the role of a perfect all-rounder and needs to be given more chances.

Spinners

Kuldeep Yadav: The left-arm wrist-spinner made sure that Australia suffered to no end in the first ODI thanks to his difficult angle and turn. In Adelaide, he will fancy his chances again as he has a history of running riot in the second match of the series. This may sound like superstition to some, but he is making that a fact now a days. Let’s hope for one tomorrow.

Pacers

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The pacer reached the 100-wicket milestone in the last ODI, but he went for 66 runs in 10 overs. His pace wasn’t up to the mark either, but as he stated today, he is on the right way to regain his mojo. The Indian team management will hope that it comes in the second ODI, which will be a do-or-die encounter for the visitors.

Mohammed Shami: The Bengal pacer made a fine transition from five-day cricket to ODI cricket in the first match. Although he didn't have any wickets to show to his name, he made sure that the pressure building work was done properly. Shami will try to convert those options to wickets in the Adelaide ODI.

Khaleel Ahmed: The left-arm pacer from Tonk has the ability to move the ball both ways and has been highly rated for the same. However, he was nowhere close to his best in the last ODI and should work on his line and length in order to keep India alive in the series.
