Despite returning to their glory in certain aspects, the biggest problem this GenY Pakistan side has faced has been their forgetting the basics. It was blatantly evident in their 1st ODI against South Africa when Faheem Ashraf failed to capitalize on an easy runout leaving Sarfaraz Ahmed furious.

There was a time a few years ago in the International cricket when almost all the Asian cricket teams were below average in fielding. However, while all others seemed to have taken huge strides to improve on the department, Pakistan have only become weaker and in may ways funnier in that skill. Callousness and forgetting the basics have been a consistent feature in their game.

Like in their most recent ODI encounter against South Africa, when in the 31st over of South Africa’s innings Faheem Ashraf was offered a golden opportunity to run Van Der Dussen out but the former seemed to forget to cover the non-striker's end. He ended up strolling his way to the non-strikers wickets taking his own sweet time from his position at the mid-on.

By the time Ashraf dislodged the wickets, the opportunity was already lost and Dussen was back in the crease safely. Skipper Sarfaraj Ahmed, who has now seen it all, seemed bewildered by fielders’ effort and expressed his disappointment. The miss also proved costly for the hosts as Dussen, who was on a personal score of 35 when the incident happened went on make 93 runs in the innings. The only good thing was Pakistan eventually won the match.
