CoA chief Vinod Rai on Friday has stated that an agency will be hired within the next 10 days to initiate the gender sensitization classes for BCCI CEO Rahul Johri. Two months earlier, Johri was exonerated by a panel for alleged sexual harassment in the wake of the #Metoo movement on social media.

Things looked bad for Board of Control for Cricket in India CEO Rahul Johri two months ago as he was accused of sexual harassment by a formal collegue, working with him at his former employer, in the wake of the #Metoo movement in India. However, the BCCI head honcho was exonerated by an independent committee which was set up to investigate the allegations leveled against him.

While Johri was cleared clean in November, lawyer Veena Gowda, who was part of the three-member panel that was investigating the sexual harassment allegations, recommended gender sensitisation classes for the CEO after finding his behaviour “unprofessional and inappropriate” on one occasion.

“Gender sensitisation will be pursued as per the recommendation of the inquiry committee, under the supervision of BCCI’s Prevention Of Sexual Harassment Committee and it will be done without any delay. I expect it to be done within the next 10 days,” Rai told PTI sources.

Recently, Supreme Court-appointed CoA had demanded that the members of the Indian cricket team should undergo gender sensitisation classes after the whole Hardik Pandya - KL Rahul controversy. However, little progress has been made in implementing the recommendation concerning Johri.

CoA chief Rai, however, claimed that Johri has no problem attending the classes as he said, “The CEO is willing to undergo gender sensitisation process. There is no issue there.”

Fellow CoA committee member and former Indian women’s team captain Diana Edulji also welcomed the recommendation put forth by the Independent investigation committee. Initially, there was a delay because Rai and Edulji differed on the choice of agency to be hired for the gender sensitisation classes.

In addition to that, the fact that the BCCI’s internal complaint committee chief Karina Kriplani resigned in October also caused some delay in the implementation of the programme.

“The new BCCI POSH committee have had two meetings on the issue. In its third meeting, which will happen before the end of the month, it will finalise the agency which will provide gender training to the CEO,” a BCCI official said.
