Skipper Priyam Garg struck a 97-ball 100, studded with seven fours and four sixes, to help India to post a total of 264. The bowlers, led by medium-pacer Kartik Tyagi’s 4 for 16, bowled the Bangladesh side out for 229 in 47.1 overs, to ensure India’s second win in the tri-series.

After beating the England U19s by five wickets in the tri-series opener last Sunday, the Indian boys put on another good display against Bangladesh yesterday, in Worcester.

Batting first, Garg scored an unbeaten century, after left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a firm 90-ball 63 at the top. Jaiswal’s knock consisted of six fours and one six.

Tilak Varma (23) and Pragnesh Kanpillewar (23) got starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores. Towards the end, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel (34) chipped in with some useful runs. India’s innings ended at 264 for five.

In reply, at least three of the Bangladeshi batsmen got starts. Captain Akbar Ali top scored with 56, while Shamim Hossain (46) and opener Tanzid Hasan (44) also offered some resistance. But they could not hold their own for long, as Tyagi’s four-fer and left-arm spinner Shubhang Hegde’s three for 59 through the middle overs left them with too much to do. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (two for 53), and medium-pacer Purnank Tyagi (one for 32) picked up the remaining wickets.

Bangladesh’s fight ended at 229, with a little less than three overs to spare, handing India a 35-run win. On the back of consecutive wins in the tri-series, the youngsters head to Cheltenham to face England again, on Saturday.
