After guiding Kerala to their maiden quarterfinal and semifinal appearance in Ranji Trophy, Kerala Cricket Association is not ready to let go of Dav Whatmore and in fact extended his contract for another year. Recently several sides in domestic cricket has shown interest in Whatmore.

Dav Whatmore’s tryst with Kerala have become a very successful one lately, with the Aussie helping the southern Indian team enter their first ever semi-final this season. That led to several sides requesting the Aussie to be with their team for the next season of the domestic cricket but KCA officials are convinced that Whatmore is here to stay at least for one more year.

"We signed a three-year contract with Whatmore before 2017-18 season with a clause for review after the end of each season. Despite taking Kerala to Ranji quarterfinals in his maiden season with him, we couldn’t give raise his pay packet for the second year because of the financial constraints faced by KCA,” Jayesh George, KCA official, told ToI.

“He agreed to continue understanding our situation and took our side to semifinal of Ranji Trophy last year. We are extremely happy with him and gave him a fresh contract for next year with a pay hike. He has signed on the contract and we are sure that a man of Whatmore’s integrity will honour it.”

The camp for Kerala probables for next domestic season began in Wayanad today. Whatmore, though, is expected to join the team only a couple of days before KSCA Trophy in Bengaluru next month.
