Wriddhiman Saha has said that he never uses a particular tournament as an opportunity to play at the top level and he gives his 100% during all the matches. Saha has also added that he stayed out of cricket after the surgery for six months to make a comeback being fully fit to play the game.

After missing out on a lot of cricket in 2018, Saha finally got back to competitive cricket during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month. The Bengal wicketkeeper was injured and had to undergo shoulder surgery in August last year and was out of the game for a while. In the process, he didn’t represent the Indian team and didn't even come out to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Saha was replaced by Rishabh Pant in Tests last year and since then the youngster from Delhi has been very impressive in the longest format of the game for India.

Meanwhile, getting back to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL, Saha has clarified that he doesn’t want to impress anyone from the tournament and get a chance in the Indian Test team again. He just wants to concentrate on his game during the upcoming 12th edition of the cash-rich league.

“I never use any tournament as a springboard to play a higher grade of cricket. I give 100% at any level of cricket — and if the selectors are convinced that my performances merit reward, then it’s their call, entirely their decision,” Saha told Mumbai Mirror in an interview.

“There’s a long time to go for the West Indies series. I haven’t started my IPL yet, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Saha considers himself to be fully fit ahead of the IPL after playing for Bengal in the domestic T20 matches. Now, he will start his IPL campaign at his home ground in Kolkata when Hyderabad will take on the Knight Riders on the second day of the league on March 24.

Saha has revealed that he is not someone who can be careful behind the stumps to avoid injuries during the matches and also spoke about the surgery and missing out on playing the game during that period.

“I can’t be conceding byes and playing too carefully in order to last the whole season. As I said, that’s not how I play. I merely react to the ball, and if in the process I injure myself, it’s something I’ve to accept and live with.

“There’s a reason I opted for surgery. I stayed away from the game for six months to ensure that when I return to cricket, I do so with full fitness,” the wicketkeeper concluded.
