IPL 2019 | I try to keep it as simple as possible, says Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has stated that he tries to keep things as simple as possible while bowling in high-pressure situations. The pacer was handed over the ball in the Super Over in Thursday’s encounter between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and he did a phenomenal job by conceding eight runs.
The match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday went too close for comfort. Manish Pandey smashed a six in the final ball off Hardik Pandya in the second innings which levelled MI’s score of 162. Jasprit Bumrah played a vital role as he struck in his very first over by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha for 25 with a back of the length delivery. He followed it up with a wicket of Martin Guptill in his very next over and only gave away 31 runs in his four-over quota. Despite giving away 12 runs in the 19th over, he was tasked with bowling the Super Over, to which he remarked that he tries to keep it simple despite negativity that creeps in.
“Sometimes the mind can get too negative, but I would like to focus on the ball which I have to bowl and try to keep clarity. If you are clear about the ball you are going to execute and you set the field accordingly and try to keep it as simple as possible,” Bumrah said at the post-match presentation ceremony, reported Cricbuzz.
The Ahmedabad born bowler gave one run in the first delivery of the Super Over, while the in form Manish Pandey was dismissed by a run-out when he was coming back for the second run. Martin Guptill struck another single and gave the strike to Mohammad Nabi who smashed a six in the third delivery. Bumrah followed it up with a fiery yorker which knocked off the stumps in the next delivery to wrap up SRH for eight runs. He claimed that he always thinks of one delivery at a time.
“There's always pressure but I think what does the team require of me, so I'm just thinking one ball at a time and what I have to do on that particular ball,” asserted the 25-year-old.
“We always talk as we have faced a lot of pressure situations and they (seniors) try to guide us. In the end, it's your own decision because if you back your own decision that's the best way to go and going forward backing yourself is always helping,” he added.
