World Cup 2019 | I am pretty sure he will perform for the team in England, says Madan Lal
Former Indian bowler Madan Lal has said that Bhuvneshwar Kumar will have a key role to play for India in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. He has had a tough time in the ongoing Indian Premier League and failed to weave magic with the ball, which he was successfully doing not long ago.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been drafted in the 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales despite being in and out of the national team in recent times. Bhuvneshwar has immense experience on his shoulders and could pose a threat in English conditions, which will suit his style of bowling.
However, the deadly swing bowler’s form in recent times has not been threatening while Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have only grown as ODI bowlers. To add to his woes, Bhuvneshwar has only scalped two wickets in four ODIs played this year. One wouldn't be wrong in saying that Bhuvneshwar's inconsistent run in the IPL has also raised concerns for the big league.
Former Indian bowler Madan Lal is confident that Bhuvneshwar Kumar will pull up in the World Cup and bring his experience into play. Lal is also certain that ODI is a different ball game altogether and Bhuvneshwar has been decent this season for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
“He is performing okay in the ongoing IPL. He is one of our premier fast bowlers. He has a lot of experience and has performed in the past as well for the team. World Cup is a different game all together and I am pretty sure he will perform for the team in England,” Lal said.
Bhuvneshwar featured in just one game against UAE in 2015 World Cup due to poor fitness. A back injury in last year’s IPL didn’t let him achieve fruitful results and has struggled to replicate similar magic with the new ball. Lack of workload management also resulted in his exclusion from Tests in England and Australia, where he could have been a threat with the new ball.
