Jeff Thomson has stated that Jasprit Bumrah has raw pace to burn down the opposition. The Gujarat bowler’s reputation has increased by leaps and bounds as he has given some exhilarating performances for India and has also risen to number one ranking within three years from his debut.

Jasprit Bumrah had made his ODI debut in Australia in January 2016 on the back of his performance for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Since then, he has 85 wickets in just 49 one dayers, 51 wickets in 42 T20Is and 49 wicket in 10 Tests. The 25-year-old also has an awkward action which makes it extremely difficult for batsman to read, add to that his ability to bowl fiery yorkers and slower ones as well. He is widely regarded as the best pacer in world cricket at the moment and even legendary Australian quick Jeff Thomson agrees.

"Bumrah is really good. He is someone, more that he has bowled, the better he has got. That's how it should work," said Thomson, who had formed the fastest bowling pair in the world with Dennis Lillee in his era, reported PTI.

"He has got raw pace to burn opposition as and when he wants to he mixes it up. And he is awkward too to read. I haven't seen batsmen reading him well. He is unorthodox and that's what makes him different," he added.

Mitchell Starc was the premier pacer in Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2015. He had emerged as the highest wicket taker, along with New Zealander Trent Boult, with 22 wickets in just eight games. However, the New South Wales pacer has only played seven ODIs in the past year and has only picked 11 wickets in them. The former Australian player acknowledged Starc’s poor form but hoped that he comes good in the upcoming quadrennial event in England and Wales.

"I hope Mitchell Starc is on song during World Cup as of late he has been all over the shop like last summer. Starc, if he can bowl well can be as good as anybody in the world. He is a precious man. He needs to bowl quick and at the same time be accurate. He gave too much away in the past," the 68-year-old explained.

In the fast bowling department for the showpiece event, the Kangaroos have gone ahead with as many as five pacers in Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter Nile, Pat Cummins and Kane Richardson apart from Starc. Thomson felt that the bowling attack is pretty good but was disappointed that Josh Hazlewood was left out.

"Pat Cummins is not a problem in my books. He has talent. We don't have Hazlewood but he could have been there. Still I would say our bowling attack is pretty good," he signed off.
