25-year-old rookie all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy has stated that South Africa, who lost the Vizag Test by a crushing 203-run margin, are still growing as a side and are focused on getting better. Despite the defeat, Muthusamy is confident that his side will bounce back in the second Test in Pune.

It was a Test match to forget for Faf du Plessis’ men as they were constantly pushed out of their comfort zone by a dominant Indian team, but debutant Senuran Muthusamy seemed to enjoy every bit of it.

The 25-year-old gave the Indian bowlers a hard time down the South African batting order as he went to score 33 and 49 not out in his first ever Test match. In addition to that, he also prized out King Kohli’s wicket in the first innings, who was in mood to pile up a ton.

"We are still looking to grow as a side and enjoy being uncomfortable. No matter how you look at it, the guys are 'comfortable being uncomfortable' and keep getting better," Muthusamy said in the pre-match press conference, reported News 18.

The 25-year-old from Durban was not at all wrong when he said that he thinks he is on the "right track" as far as his Test debut is concerned. Although he failed to impress with the ball, the all-rounder impressed everyone with his gritty batting when the top batsmen of the team struggled.

"I would have ideally wanted to win my first Test and make an impact with bat and ball but it really wasn't to be. I will take the start and hopefully try to do well if I am in the team for the next match," he said.

"If not, I will back the boys. I am sure we will look to carry the momentum. I am on the right track as I was fortunate to get some good time out in the middle."

The South Africans have a lot to think about before the next Test on October 10 and getting the team combination right is surely the most important of all. The heavy defeat in Vizag has been a very cruel reality check for a team in their transition phase.
