Australian quick Jason Behrendorff will miss the rest of the 2019/20 season after opting to go under the knife for a back injury that has troubled him for the past few years. The pacer will get the 'Shane Bond surgery' that James Pattinson recently underwent to get his career back on track.

Jason Behrendorff will fly to New Zealand next week to undergo back surgery, the same surgery that James Pattinson and Shane Bond underwent in the past, to solve a back issue that's been bothering him for the majority of his career. The surgery effectively rules Behrendorff out of action for the rest of the 2019/20 season, but it has been scheduled in such a way that the pacer will have enough time to get back on the field for the 2020 T20 World Cup.

"Unfortunately I've had the same injury over the last few years and we've tried a number of things and the injury continues to return," Behrendorff was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"After a lot of thought and discussion we've decided that surgery is the best opportunity to find a more permanent fix.I'm feeling good about the surgery, I've spoken to a number of Aussie and Kiwi bowlers who've had a similar surgery and they were all very positive about the results. This particular procedure has had good success rates in other professional pace bowlers with similar reoccurring issues," he added.

Behrendorff, who has represented Australia in 11 ODIs and 7 T20Is, impressed all with his impeccable skills with the new ball at the 2019 World Cup, famously scalping a five-wicket haul against England at Lord's. While the road back to international cricket seems like a long one, the Western Australian would definitely be hopeful that he will someday be back in national colours, especially after seeing his mate Pattinson overcome a similar issue.
