BCCI electoral officer disqualifies eight associations from BCCI AGM on October 23

The BCCI's electoral officer, N Gopalaswami, has disqualified the nominations from 5 state associations and 3 government bodies in the final electoral roll for the Annual General Meeting on October 23. The eight disqualifications have pruned down the draft list of 38 nominations down to 30.

The eight associations that have been removed from the electoral roll are the Armed Forces/Services, Haryana Cricket Association (HCA), Indian Railways, Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), Manipur Cricket Association, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, and the Association of Indian Universities. Of these, the TNCA, HCA and MCA were debarred on the count of non-compliance by the CoA. According to Cricbuzz’s report, the TNCA and HCA have decided to take up the matter with the court on Monday, October 14. Both associations had previously claimed that neither the CoA nor the electoral officer was within their rights to prevent them from attending the AGM for non-compliance.

The Indian Railways, Armed Forces/Services and Association of Indian Universities were found ineligible as their nomination was not from the association of former players, which violated Rule 3(a)(ii)(e)/(f)/(g) respectively of the BCCI constitution.

However, all the individual nominees who faced objections were allowed to respond to the Electoral Officer on the charges against them. Rajkumar Imo Singh and Rajiv Shukla failed to give an adequate response to any of the 100-plus objections raised against the two. In a five-pointer complain send by Pradeep Singh, he objected to Shukla’s nomination on two main counts — non-residency in UP and his association with Hockey India — among others. MPCA member Sanjeev Gupta alone filed complaints against seven nominees, including Shukla, R Ramasammy (TNCA), Mrinal Ojha (HCA), and Riyaz Bagban (MCA). On the other hand, Rajkumar has been disqualified for holding a public office as Congress MLA, which is in violation of Rule 6(e)(iv) of the Manipur Cricket Association constitution and Rule 6(5)(d) of the BCCI constitution.

Meanwhile, Rajat Sharma (Delhi and Districts Cricket Association), Brijesh Patel (Karnataka Cricket Association), and Raju Singh Chauhan (Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association) were cleared of their objections raised against them after their responses were deemed sufficient.
