India tour in doubt as Bangladesh players likely to go on strike against BCB
In an unprecedented move, Bangladesh players have called for a strike against the board, after the board decided not to increase the match fees in domestic cricket despite halting BPL. The cricketers have called a spontaneous press conference on Monday afternoon where they will deliver their stance.
Since last month, when Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to abandon the Bangladesh Premier League's franchise-based model, it resulted in growing discontent among the players. The major reason behind the discontent had been the reduction of earning for an average professional cricketer, which has gone down to an all-time low.
Further, the BCB didn't raise the match fees in the first-class competition that began earlier this month, while adding a salary cap to the Dhaka Premier League. Everything added up to the discontent and the players were clearly frustrated.
That can be judged from the fact that Shakib Al Hasan, the Test and T20I captain and the country's most celebrated cricketer, said in a recent interview that cricketers are "suppressed" and must be treated better. Now, this has come down to the strike, which has been unprecedented in Bangladesh cricket history.
ESPN Cricinfo reported that they could go on strike and if that happens, the upcoming T20I and Test series against India might go to a shadow over next month's tour of India.
