Pakistan will go for wins in Australia despite challenges, claims Babar Azam
Pakistan’s newly appointed T20I captain Babar Azam is aware of the challenges that the team will face in Australia but the skipper has claimed that the tourists will go for wins. Azam recently overthrew Sarfaraz Ahmed to be named captain of the Pakistan team in the shortest format.
It’s only been a week since 25-year-old Azam replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was dethroned as skipper and dropped from the squad following a shocking 3-0 defeat against a second Sri Lankan side earlier this month.
There were talks of removing Sarfaraz from captaincy ever since Pakistan’s exit from the World Cup and that actually materialized as Azhar Ali was named captain in Tests and Azam for T20Is.
Starting from November 3, Pakistan will play three Twenty20 internationals in Australia, following which they’ll play two Tests, the last of which will commence on December 3.
Azam, set to be Pakistan’s youngest skipper in T20Is, acknowledges the Australia challenge but believes that the team is ready to win.
"Every tour is tough and Australia is always a challenging place because of the extra bounce, but we will go for wins as we always do," Azam was quoted as saying by TOI.
"I am proud that now I am the skipper," he said.
"I have toured Australia as skipper of Pakistan Under-19 (2012) and with the Pakistan team three years ago, so I have experience of those conditions," he added.
