CPL 2019 | Kieron Pollard to lead TKR as Dwayne Bravo to miss entire tournament
After Dwayne Bravo was ruled out from the Caribbean Premier League with a finger injury, Kieron Pollard has been named as the captain of Trinbago Knight Riders. Pollard had been picked as Trinbago's marquee pick and is set to represent his home franchise for the first time in the tournament.
Although Bravo was supposed to miss a part of the tournament due to the finger injury, it has now been revealed that he is not in the right condition to resume playing cricket anytime soon and has been ruled out of the entire tournament. In his absence, Pollard, who last year led Mumbai Indians in a few matches, will take over the onus of captaincy of Trinbago Knight Riders.
“It’s a very unfortunate injury and Dwayne Bravo will be greatly missed. However, we are fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Kieron Pollard to take over the reins from Bravo. His leadership abilities are well proven and, like Bravo, will bring a very aggressive style as captain in TKR’s quest for a third championship in a row,” Venky Mysore, Director of TKR said in a statement.
Apart from Bravo, the Knight Riders will also be missing out on the services of Colin Munro for their first three matches. He has been replaced by Lendl Simmons for the opening three games.
The absence of two star players, however, have hardly affected the defending champions as the team has made it two wins from two to open the 2019 season. They inflicted a 22-run defeat on Jamaica Tallawahs at the Queens Park Oval yesterday as Tion Webster scored an unbeaten 66 while Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard played quickfire knocks to prop the hosts to 191. The spinner then turned in a typically miserly performance with the ball to keep Tallawahs in check.
