The Barbados Tridents have announced that Australian T20 veteran Daniel Christian will be joining the franchise for the remainder of the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Christian will be replacing Asif Ali who is now no longer available due to domestic commitments in Pakistan.

Asif Ali, a top-order batsman with the one-time winners' Tridents, will depart them midway through the seventh edition of the CPL. But his replacement, the hard-hitting Aussie, is one of the most vastly experienced players in the world in the shortest format of the game. He has played as many as 293 T20 matches in his career, featuring in the English T20 Blast, IPL, PSL, BBL, and has also played in the CPL previously for the Trinbago Knight Riders – the defending champions – when they won the title in 2017.

Christian has a tally of 4464 runs at a strike rate of 138.59, with two centuries and 13 half-centuries. An effective option with the ball, Christian has 221 wickets to his name with six four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.

The 36-year-old Victorian has also represented his country in 19 ODIs and 16 T20Is, although he barely found any success at the international level. With just one victory to their name, the Barbados Tridents are currently placed fifth in the points table and would be hoping for Christian to propel them into the semi-final.
