CPL 2019 | Barbados Tridents sign Harry Gurney for remainder of the season
Barbados Tridents have roped in English all-rounder Harry Gurney for the remaining part of their Caribbean Premier League season after his Vitality Blast campaign representing Nottinghamshire recently came to an end. He has in the past represented the national team and is a regular in T20 leagues.
Harry Gurney has agreed to take part in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League wearing the colours of the Barbados Tridents, he recently confirmed. The 32-year-old was until recently playing in the Vitality T20 Blast to help his team win the title and put up impressive numbers in the tournament, finishing with 12 wickets. However, a loss against Worcestershire saw his team getting eliminated in the penultimate round, allowing him to join the Tridents.
Primarily a left-arm medium-fast bowler, Hurney has enjoyed most of his success in white ball cricket. He specializes in the shortest version of the game, where he has received most prominence. He also has 10 ODI caps and a couple of T20 caps for England, though he has not been called up since 2014.
Of late, he has built a reputation for himself playing in the different cash-rich domestic T20 leagues around the world and representing an array of franchises. Last year, he had turned up for the Melbourne Renegades before turning out for the Quetta Gladiators and the Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this year.
The Tridents have had a dismal start to the season, managing to pick up only four points midway through the round-robin stage. However, the 2014 CPL champions sit in fourth spot and are still in contention to qualify for the knockout rounds. The first of their remaining five round-robin matches is scheduled for Tuesday against the Jamaica Tallawahs in Bridgetown.
