The South African Women's team led by skipper Sune Luus thrashed the India Women Board President XI by 83 runs in Surat on Sunday to start the tour on a bright note. Lizelle Lee, who struck a sublime 65, was the star for South Africa, while Tarannumbanu Pathan was the only silver lining for India.

Brief scores: SA W 174/5 (Lizelle Lee 65 and T Pathan 2/23) beat INDWBP XI 91 all-out (Bharati Fulmali 23 and Shabnim Ismail 3/11)

With the first warmup T20 getting washed out due to rain, the South African women's team were desperate for some practice in Surat ahead of their limited-overs matches against India and to their rejoice, got more than they bargained for as they put out an all-round, clinical performance to thrash the Sushma Verma-led Indian side by 83 runs on Sunday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, South Africa Women got off to the perfect start as openers Lizelle Lee and Tazmin Brits raced off to 61/0 in no time to put the Indians under immediate pressure. However, Tarannumbanu Pathan, the only shining light for India on Sunday, struck on the seventh over to send Brits back to the hut for 20. She then removed Laura Wolvaardt in her very next over to peg the South Africans back, at least for the time being.  However, an immaculate 65 from Lee and a masterful 18-ball 40 from Mignon du Preez propelled the visitors' score to 174.

Chasing a stiff target of 175, the India Women Board President XI got off to the worst start possible as they lost their first four wickets for just six runs, undone by the brilliance of Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka. Bharati Fulmali (23) and Devika Vaidya (19) showed some temporary resistance but the duo was sent back to the hut by opposition skipper Sune Luus, who ended with figures of 3/17 off her four overs. The Indian team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually folded for a modest score of 91, handing South Africa Women a crushing 83-run victory.

The first of the five T20Is between South Africa Women and India Women will be played at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on Tuesday.
