A majority of matches in a fresh season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy have been washed out due to untimely and unforeseen rain. With as many as 17 matches marred due to bad weather, the BCCI is considering to reschedule these matches on the rest days in order to give the players maximum game time.

Rain has played a tremendous spoilsport on all the four Vijay Hazare Trophy venues- Bengaluru, Jaipur, Vadodara, and Dehradun - so far. As of now, out of 30 matches scheduled till Thursday, 17 have been abandoned due to excessive rain and wet outfield while many others have been shortened.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is considering to hold the first few abandoned matches on the two rest days on October 2 and 8, in order to get back some of the lost match time for the players. And due to this rescheduling, the ongoing league stage, which was scheduled until October 16, of the One Day trophy could also be extended by a couple of days.

The board had a meeting with the team managers on Thursday evening to discuss the feasibility of the aforementioned change of schedule. The general manager of BCCI's Cricket operations, Saba Karim, has confirmed that feasibility and logistics were discussed in the meeting and are being worked out.

"We are working on it (rescheduling abandoned matches)," Karim told TOI. "We did not expect the unseasonal rain to affect the tournament so badly. It is not just one venue.

"We will have to factor in matches at all the four venues. We will take a final call after getting the views from all stakeholders. We will schedule matches on rest days. Our intention is to ensure the players get maximum game time."

After the conclusion of the league stage, the knockouts will be held from October 20-25 in Bengaluru.
